Psalm 114
Back to Index page

1 When Israel came out of Egypt,
the house Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,
2 Judah became God’s sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.
3 The sea looked and fled,
    the Jordan turned back;
4 the mountains leaped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

5 Why was it, sea, that you fled?
O, Jordan, that you turned back?
6 you, mountains, that you skipped like rams,
    you hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.
(NIV)

Psalm 114:, This psalm highlights both God’s power and design.
When the time came for Israel to be reconciled from their time in Egypt. God sent Moses who would show them the way. The people were not very thankful and complained. God sheltered them in the mountains and in the desert until they were willing to follow the ways God had taught them.

The psalm shows us how God has designed the lives that He gives us.
He designed the world we live in, and He knew the mistakes we would make in looking after it. We need to praise God and listen to what he wants us to do with our lives and the world around us.
You might not think it, or realise it, but you could have saved someone’s life by an action you have taken, or said to someone.
What can we celebrate God for, in our lives?
Perhaps it’s the work we do?
or the people we have helped?
or the groups of people we have supported for one cause or another.

The newspapers and governments all press us down with the world wants and bad things that are happening in our world. Just take a breather; and look at the world outside your window. Look at the plants and the animals, all growing and the energy they have for the world around them.
My sister and I live more than 100 miles apart and we both have birds, and we notice that they do the same things maybe a week apart

Can’t we feel that energy? the touch of God in our lives, like our birds seem to know. To feel where our life is going.
Does it make you want to sing, dance, and shout about it and praise God for the life that He gave you?

If you are going through a sad time look at the seasons, we have Winter and Spring where we have bad weather that people cannot get around, but after Spring we have Summer and Autumn sunny warm days where we can get about or just sit outside the door of our house. Just thank God for those good days that you have had.
