Gods sustaining power
A Song of degrees

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills –
    where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip –
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you –
    the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm –
    he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
    both now and for evermore.
(NIV)

Psalm 121: Can you imagine a group of people going to Jerusalem, and the leader singing out,
‘Where does my help come from?’
And the crowd shout out the reply - ‘My help comes from the Lord the Maker of heaven and earth’.
We forget when we sing our songs and hymns that people for years have been singing God’s praise for what He has done for us.

At times we take things for granted, that we will have fresh water flowing from our taps.
In the summer we will have sunny spells, or winter we will have rain or snow.
Have we forgotten that God made all this, He knows the weather and what we need, He knows we need food, But have we become so complacent that we expect days in summer to be sunny and in winter the days will be cold.

A few years ago, we went to the Peak District for our family’s holiday. We went into the caves and the guides were telling us how low the water levels had got to. They said we need more rain to fill the underground streams. At the end of last year and the beginning of this year we had tremendous rainfalls. I said to the family, ‘see God is filling up the underground streams.’

Remember God is watching over you, do not forget to give thanks when the days are bright and sunny but also remember we need the wet days to fill the reservoirs.
