Psalm 129
Back to Index page
A song of ascents.

1 ‘They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,’ let Israel say;
2 ‘they have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
    but they have not gained the victory over me.
3 Ploughmen have ploughed my back
    and made their furrows long.
4 But the LORD is righteous;
    he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.’

5 May all who hate Zion
    be turned back in shame.
6 May they be like grass on the roof,
    which withers before it can grow;
7 with it the reaper cannot fill his hands nor one who gathers fill his arms.
8 May those who pass by not say to them,
    ‘The blessing of the LORD be on you;
    we bless you in the name of the LORD.’
(NIV)

Psalm 129:-A prayer to God by the people for protection from their enemies for all the pain their enemies have inflicted on them. This is linked to Psalm 124 which people pour out their fears at what has happened to them.

When we ae hurt by other people, our first thought is to shout back or bring revenge on the people that have hurt us, but this is not what God wants. We are to pray for those who hurt us, we are to forgive those who shout or speak bad things about us.

It could be that the person has been brought up by a bad family and he or she has suffered pain all their lives and they just want to hit out at people who look to be better off than they are.

There are a lot of people on our streets or bad living homes because of bad landlords, friends or family who have taken all their money, and they feel mad at the world at the state they are in.

How can we help these people? What can we do to make their life better?

Whatever their problem is, they need a friend, someone they can talk to, someone who will listen to what has happened to them.

We can be a friend to them and guide them to places where they can get help.
(If you want to do this, please talk to help and guidance people first). It was only by working with Drug Advice people, that I was told not to give money to people on the streets. Buy them food or drinks, but not to give them money. Be careful of put temptation into their hands to buy drugs giving them money might be easier for them to get more drugs.
