Psalm 138
Back to Index page
By David.

1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
    before the ‘gods’ I will sing your praise.
2 I will bow down towards your holy temple
    and will praise your name
    for your love and your faithfulness,
    for you have exalted above all things
    your name and your word.
3 When I called, you answered me;
    you made me bold and stout-hearted.
4 May all the kings of the earth praise you, O LORD,
    when they hear the words of your mouth.
5 May they sing of the ways of the LORD,
    for the glory of the LORD is great.

6 Though the LORD is on high, he looks upon the lowly;
    but the proud, he knows from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life.
    You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
    with your right hand you save me.
8 The LORD will fulfil his purpose, for me;
    your love, O LORD, endures for ever –
    do not abandon the works of your hands.

Psalm 138:- David is grateful and sings God’s praise for answering his prayer. David sings out of God’s care and protection on individual people.
‘May all the kings on earth praise you’, the word of God will be spread throughout the world to every island on the earth, their kings should praise God and thank him for all He has done.

Our world has been explored and now we know every island on the earth, we even know places on the moon. So, no-one should be out of contact with coming to know God. People are translating the bible into the languages of distant islands and newfound groups of people. It is nearly time, when the whole of the earth will have heard about God, who made the earth and all that is in it. That includes you and me.

I wonder do we thank Him for all the people He has made? or for the islands He has formed?
I thank God His stories that I have heard, and that He came down in Jesus, and talked and healed people, showing us what He is like, and how He cares for people.

Can we go out and show His love to the people we meet today. Has every day when we, as we go about our work.

I remember the story of a lady dying in hospital and she still prayed every night for the people in her ward. Can we spread Good’s love to the people we meet today, and every day? Can we pray for them?
