Psalm 48

A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah.

1 Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,

2 It is beautiful in its loftiness,
the joy of the whole earth,
like the utmost heights of Zaphon b is Mount Zion,
the city of the Great King.
3 God is in her citadels.
he has shown himself to be her fortress.
4 When the kings joined forces,
    when they advanced together,
5 they saw her and were astounded.
    they fled in terror.
6 Trembling seized them there,
pain like that of a woman in labour.
7 You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish
    shattered by an east wind.
8 As we have heard,
    so we have seen

in the city of the LORD Almighty,
in the city of our God:
God makes her secure for ever.
9 Within your temple, O God,
we meditate on your unfailing love.
10 Like your name, O God,
your praise reaches to the ends of the earth:
your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Mount Zion rejoices,
the villages of Judah are glad
    because of your judgments.
12 Walk about Zion, go around her,
    count her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts,
view her citadels, that you may tell of them
    to the next generation.
14 For this God is our God for ever and ever;
he will be our guide even to the end.

Psalm 48:The psalm describes the relief and joy of official pardon from invasion, delivered by God from her enemies. (Read Chronicles 32.) Sennacherib has failed to take Jerusalem, and. Sennacherib says it is because Judah had put their trust in God, and that is why they could not overthrow them. Jerusalem is overjoyed at God’s saving them, their praise they feel will reach out over all the earth.

I wonder if we have had a time when we thought things were getting bad and there was no way out. A prayer to God had been the only way out of our problem.
Did we shout for joy? Did we praise God for what He had done?

The enemies of Jerusalem certainly thought God had been with Jerusalem in the battle, has nothing they could do could break them.

God is with us and helps us each day, we should shout with joy when we see healing or found something that has been lost.

Years ago, my mother-in-law gave me money to buy a new skirt like the one I used to wear. I went around all the shops in Cambridge and could not see anything like the skirt my mother-in-law wanted me to buy. I said a prayer God, please help me to find this skirt. A voice in my mind said try the next street and there were rows of the type of skirt I was after. I sent prayers of joy that at last I had found it.
