Psalm 64
Back to Index page
For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 Hear me, O God, as I voice my complaint;
    protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked,
    from that noisy crowd of evildoers.
3 They sharpen their tongues like swords
    and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 They shoot from ambush at the innocent man;
    they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They encourage each other in evil plans,
    they talk about hiding their snares;
    they say, ‘Who will see them’[b]
6 They plot injustice and say,
    ‘We have devised a perfect plan!’
    Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning.

7 But God will shoot them with his arrows;
    they will suddenly be struck down.
8 He will turn their own tongues against them
    and bring them to ruin;
    all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
9 All mankind will fear;
    they will proclaim the works of God
    and ponder what he has done.
   p> and take refuge in him;
    Let all the upright in heart praise him.

(NIV)

l the upright in heart praise him!

Psalm 64 – David prays for help against evil doers. From the people who want to bring him down or hurt him. He confided his thoughts and prayers to God. The one who sees all and protects His workers. ‘God help me from those who slander me, and those who bear false witness against me, those who think they can cast spells on me’. David is going through a bad time, not what you would have expected from God’s chosen king. David has his eyes set on following God, he believes, he has heard and follows God’s directions for his life.

Have we set out on a road that we know God has set before us? and then, we come across people that will say all sort of things, to try and make us give up from following God’s plans.

I once helped a new preacher, and she told me that I was not good enough to be a local preacher because I did not come from the right background.
I knew she was wrong, because God had been trying to get me into preaching for seven years and I kept refusing.
I did become a preacher, and I helped others to preach, and I believe I gave God’s message for the people I preached to.
If God has put a task before you, believe in Him and do the work He has set before you, relax in the joy it sets in your heart when you do your work for God.
