Psalm 81

For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] Of Asaph.

1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
    shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
2 Begin the music, strike the tambourine,
    play the melodious harp and lyre.
3 Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon,
    and when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast;
4 this is a decree for Israel,
    an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
    He established it as a statute for Joseph.
5 When he went out against Egypt,
    Where we heard an a language we did not understand:
6 ‘He says ‘I removed the burden from their shoulders;
    their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In your distress you called and I rescued you,
    I answered you out of a thundercloud;
    I tested you at the waters of Meribah.[c]
8 Hear, O my people, and I will warn you –
    if you would but listen to me, O Israel!
9 You shall have no foreign god among you;

you shall not bow down to any alien god .
10 I am the LORD your God,
    who brought you up out of Egypt.
    Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
11 ‘But my people would not listen to me;
    Israel would not submit to me.
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
    to follow their own devices.
13 ‘If my people would only listen to me,
    if Israel would only follow my ways,
14 how quickly I would subdue their enemies
    and turn my hand against their foes!
15 Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him,
    and their punishment would last for ever.
16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;
    with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.’

Psalm 81- This has been thought to be a renewal of the covenant with God. A reminder to the people of their promise with God.in Exodus 20:2-5.
If people would only listen to God and no other idols, God would be there to help and guide them just as He did to the past Tribe of Israel.

I wonder, do we look to things of our world and put them before our thoughts of God.
Do we look to God, for help and protection or do we rely on the world’s force to sort out our problems?
At the moment our world seems in torment with politicians promising this and that, places having bad weather conditions, USA with vast fires, but where do we turn to for looking after our world. I hope we put our trust and hope in God first, as we start to sort out our problems.
People have been panicking with the amount of snow. I remember in my childhood in the 1950s we had bad weather; we walked to school, as our parents did not have cars. Snow was so high it sometimes came over your wellingtons, so we had to walk on the road, where a snowplough had been. People were friendly and they spoke to you as they passed you in the street.
We have hard times in our weather, in the world and in our homes, but with God’s love He will see us through these bad times if we put our trust and hope in Him.
