Psalm 87

Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.

1 He has set his foundation on the holy mountain.
2 The LORD loves the gates of Zion
more than all the other dwellings of Jacob.
3 Glorious things are said of you,
    O city of God:[a]
4 ‘I will record Rahab[b] and Babylon
among those who acknowledge me –
Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush[c]
and will say, “This one was born in Zion.”’[d]

5 Indeed, of Zion it will be said,
‘This one and that one were born in her,
and the Most High himself will establish her.’
6 The LORD will write in the register of the peoples:
‘This one was born in Zion.’
7 As they make music they will sing,
‘All my fountains are in you.’

Psalm 87: I did find this psalm difficult at first, then I found out that over the years the psalm has been altered. This is a festival psalm, that looks forward to what God has planned for the city.
It tells of Jerusalem’s’ history, in the story of the nation who have lived there.
They praise the city where: -
• Things are taught in the streets.
• Things that were foretold would happen there.
• The death of the Messiah would happen there.
So, it no wonder that a festival psalm is celebrated there. Where the people have so much to be thankful for. Their praises just ring out to God with thankfulness.

I wonder how many of our services have just sung out in praise to God for what He has done. Perhaps our Easter morning service, but do we praise God in our daily lives and through the week about the good things happened to us?
Do we shout out our thanks to God enough?
Give God praise and give thanks as you go around the office or your house today for the things that have happened to you and your family.
