1 The LORD reigns,
let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let the earth shake.
2 Great is the LORD in Zion;
he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name –
he is holy.
4 The King is mighty, he loves justice –
you have established equity;
in Jacob you have done
what is just and right.
5 Exalt the LORD our God
and worship at his footstool;
he is holy.

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel was among those who called on his name;
they called on the LORD
and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
8 O Lord our God,
you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,
though you punished their misdeeds.[a]
9 Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his holy mountain,
for the Lord our God is holy.

Psalm 99: The final psalm of the divine kingdom is composed of three verses, each followed by a call to worship (verses 3, 5, 9). The first verse describes the King’s greatness (verses 1-2); the second, His justice (verse 4); and the third, His forgiveness (verses 6-8).
The theme of this psalm is summed up in its last phrase: “for the LORD our God is holy” (verse 9). The psalmist encourages praise to the king for His holiness (verses 3, 5, 9), The psalmist also enjoys in the truth that such a holy God has had an intimate saving relationship with Israel throughout her history (verses 6-9).
I. Praise of the King’s Holiness (99:1-5).
II. Examples of the King’s Holiness (99:6-9).
Verses 1-5: God’s Son governs the world by his wisdom, He governs the church by his grace, and both are his. The inhabitants of the earth have cause to tremble, but the Redeemer waits to be gracious. Let all who hear, take warning, and seek his mercy. The more we humble ourselves before God, the more we exalt him; and let us be thus reverent, for he is holy.
The refrain of this psalm, “for it is holy” (99:3), is expanded and given warmth here: “the LORD our God is holy”. His majesty is undiminished, and our relationship is as a child to a parent.
We worship the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, where Father is above all.
This psalm is praise to God who is ruler of all that is. Give him thanks and praise for the world He has created for us. We have a friend, in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who looks after the whole of the universe, but is there for us when something goes wrong in our life, He is there to pick us up and comfort us and set us back on the right path.
